Betsy Walkerman

Betsy Walkerman specializes in entrepreneurial strategy. A lawyer by training, she served as Chief Financial Officer, General Counsel and Vice President of Strategic Development at Aspen Technology, the leading supplier worldwide of process modeling and plant optimization software. At AspenTech, she developed the company’s strategic plan, raised its venture capital, established international operations, and laid the foundation for the company’s IPO. Since 1995, Betsy has consulted to entrepreneurs and served on boards of directors, helping to launch more than a dozen ventures. Her work includes quantitative modeling, developing business and financial strategies, technology licensing, mergers and acquisitions, and coaching entrepreneurs. Based on this work, Betsy has a working knowledge of the chemical industry, the energy industry, medical technology, and materials science, among others.

Betsy received her J.D. magna cum laude from Boston College in 1979. She was associated with the Boston law firm of Bingham, Dana & Gould before joining AspenTech. Betsy previously worked in state government and non-profit organizations, focusing on energy and transportation policy. She drafted New England’s first energy policy adopted by the New England Governor’s Conference in 1974. Her recent non-profit work includes serving as Vice Chair of the Jericho Underhill Land Trust, spearheading several conservation projects, and serving on the board of the Lake Champlain Sailing Center.
