Hinda Miller
In her second term as a Chittenden County senator, Hinda Miller sits on the Senate Economic Development and Appropriations committees. With her background as a successful businessperson, she quickly established herself as an effective leader, particularly in the all important areas of job creation and sensible economic development. Senator Miller led Senate efforts to reform worker compensation laws, create a 21stcentury telecommunications and broadband policy, restoration of our brownfields through incentives for growth, and successfully secured funding for business incubator spaces and seed capital funding for promising entrepreneurs.
Before her life in the Vermont Senate, she has enjoyed a successful career as an entrepreneur, corporate executive, visiting university professor, corporate director, community activist, and yoga teacher, In 1977, she co-created the original sportsbra named the ‘Jogbra’, and grew the business into one of Chittenden County’s successful employers. After building an international brand and selling the company to Sara Lee Corp, Hinda continued on as President, CEO & Spokesperson from 1990-1997.
As President of Deforest Concepts, a consulting firm specializing in small business, she continues her promotion of women & entrepreneurship. As trustee of Champlain College, board member of New England Culinary Institute and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, she continues her interest in education and entrepreneurship.
A resident of Burlington, VT since 1977, she lives with her husband, Dr. Joel Miller, and their two children. She received her BFA from Parson’s School of Design & MFA from New York University. She embraces an active lifestyle and appreciation of the arts, and is a practitioner & teacher of yoga.
