John E. Cronin

John Cronin is Managing Director and Chairman of ipCapital Group (ipCG). Capitalizing on a lifelong study of the creative thinking and inventive thinking processes, John has created the unique ipCapital System® methodology, which extracts and documents invention, identifies opportunity and risk, and creates significant market value from intellectual property (IP).

John has successfully led ipCG from a small consulting practice to a significant IP services firm serving over 250 clients in its five-year history. John has developed proprietary methods and tools for IP and has established recognized thought leadership regarding IP and its strategic uses for many industry segments. John orchestrated major accomplishments for ipCG by raising significant venture capital to fund the company’s growth and by developing the unique methodology. John continues to lead consulting assignments for a wide variety of clients.

Prior to founding ipCG, John was employed by IBM for 17 years, during which time he patented 100 inventions, published over 150 technical papers, received IBM’s “Most Distinguished Inventor Award,” and was recognized as IBM’s “Top Inventor.” As a member of the senior technical staff and the prestigious IBM Academy, John led a team on intellectual asset development that drove the effort to produce and manage the development of IP, identified as the “Patent Factory.” The IBM Patent Factory supported the team that increased IBM’s annual licensing revenue from $30 million in 1992 to more than $1 billion in 1997 and every year thereafter. John continues to invent for his clients and within ipCG.

John is a member of the Advisory Board for Color Kinetics; holds a BSEE, an MSEE, and a BA degree in Psychology from the University of Vermont and has been trained in several creativity methodologies.
