InventVermont Hosts Discussion with Leahy and USPTO Director David Kappos on Patent Reform and Job Creation
U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy and the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office David Kappos will talk with inventors and intellectual property professionals about Leahy's Patent Reform Act during Invent Vermont's June meeting in Burlington on June 3rd at 8:30 a.m. at Main Street Landing.
Leahy, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee which has jurisdiction over intellectual property law, announced in March that for the first time in 55 years, a bipartisan group of lawmakers have agreed on a package of patent reforms that will help spur job creation and give American inventors the tools they need in a global market place to continue innovating and leading the world in patents. According to Leahy, the bill makes needed updates to the system to improve patent quality and increase certainty among parties in litigation. Leahy said patent reform will have a large impact on Vermont's economy - from IBM's Essex Junction facility - long known as a leading patent development facility in the country - to the hundreds of inventors who make a living creating new ideas and products and the hundreds of intellectual property experts that call Vermont home.
